One of the fertility control research subjects. The ear tags are uniquely numbered but Claire Wimpenny can probably identify it from just the colour combo, Yellow Left Orange Right, because there are probably only a few tagged ones that have moved into Mugga Mugga reserve.
I routinely email Claire Wimpenny with sightings of marked EGKs reported on Nature Mapper. She replied that this one has moved across from Red Hill. GPS tagging has shown that mostly EGKS are extremely faithful to a small home range, and some will tenaciously persist there even in spite of extreme disturbance causing them to exhibit signs of extreme anxiety. But the extensive tagging for fertility control research has shown that occasionally the opposite also happens, and a population undergoes a phase of high dispersal. Apparently Red Hill has lately been an example.
Thanks for the explanation Don. Unfortunately we still have people walking dogs off lead on Red Hill and it may have been chased at least some of the way.
