@Mike, Black Mountain is an exceptional local site in having a fair number of Milk Termite (Coptotermes lacteus) mounds mixed among the majority of Nasutitermes exitosus mounds. The Milk Termite mounds are harder, brighter coloured (because the exterior layer contains less organic material), steeper, and the mounds can be taller. Also the Coptotermes mounds usually have a faint tesselated appearance on the surface. This mound is likely to be Nasutitermes but it has the brighter colour and tesselated appearance of Coptotermes so I am unsure. So the critical question is hardness. Did you kick it? (Unless you saw some of the soldiers - the best test of all).
