I recently found the entry of a large borrow and many Wombat pellets probably from a young wombat - https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4730020 and https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4728913.
2 nights ago I put up a camera and caught this cat and a fox, see https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/edit/4730332, but no wombat...
There has been a single wombat in Ainslie Majura for several years, which is mainly on Majura but occasionally seems to wander to the opposite end of the reserve. Wombats are not capable of parthenogenesis, therefore the recent appearance of a smaller wombat implies a second release by wildlife carers, who run reintroduction programs for several species which are defacto, unplanned, ad hoc, and unregulated, and include unlicenced translocation across the ACT border.
Wonder whether young wombats raised by humans have a survival chance when they are released. So far I saw people release Brushtail possums with and without man-made possum houses which were screwed to trees (and later fell off). Wildlife Care is supported by Natural Resource Management; I wonder whether there are any wildlife release standards apply here in ACT.
