In the mid 1970s I was told this spot (Gregory's lucerne paddock) was the only place in the ACT where Wallaroos could be found. Wallaroos have been appearing there most winter afternoons since. They have spread widely since that time and now are seen e.g. in most units of Canberra Nature Park. In later years (since ~2010) they have also been seen in the lower slope paddocks running to the east from this point as far as the Top Naas Road. In dry years, feral goats would also appear in the paddock, before their population was reduced to a low level.

Thanks Don. I can back up the afternoon observation, as on 28/08/2026 I drove past in the morning, not a single one observed, then at around 3:10pm on return trip I counted at least 35 individuals present.. Also observed some at the corner of Naas and Apollo Roads that afternoon.
