User's notes

Two sets of 2 photos each; photos of 1st set taken in the morning after 10am and photos of 2nd set taken in the afternoon after 5pm; they show: (1) Golden Rain Tree which was planted in the reserve by resident of Rivett 77 Street - note fallen leaves underneath (and power lines above); (2) leaves spread at Friends of Mt Majura (FoMM) Chilean Needle Grass (CNG) control and improvement site; (3) same Golden Rain Tree 6 hours later - note leaves cleared under canopy; (4) the site in the reserve where the leaves were spread. I don't know whether seeds were present in the spread material. In the past 22 years, FoMM asked the resident to discontinue spreading material in the nature reserve and the land manager to talk to the resident. The resident also spreads CNG (and other grass clippings) in the reserve which has been the principal source of this WoNS spreading in the area. FoMM offered to provide the resident trash bags to fill them with grass clippings which the volunteers would empty. The offer was not taken. FoMM also suggested to organise a second green bin for the resident for the use of grass clippings. The resident explained to FoMM in the past that he is concerned about fire hazard. FoMM explained that adding fire fuel deeper in the reserve which would increase fertility and support stronger growth is not a solution apart from the problem of spreading hard-to-control weeds. The physical removal of the material would be cheaper and friendlier to the environment than spraying weeds year after year. Photos of the latest spread of grass clippings are shown at https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4727793

yes Mike and resident of 77 Rivett Street who planted the tree still spreads the leaves possibly with fruits in the reserve as he does with Chilean needle grass clippings - he does this for as least 22 years, i.e. the first time FoMM asked to discontinue. This is an example of garden extension / bush on the boundary problem. I informed Parks many times particularly about garden extensions and about the resident spreading CNG clippings. At one occasion Parks staff said he didn't see / find the spread CNG clippings that I reported; therefore I thought to help Parks to see by documenting... I change the id to Fraxinus sp.
