EDIT: After seeing the family return tonight to feed and tend to the chick, I now realise that my original post is incorrect, and that the photos are of the chick's actual family, and not visitors. Of note is that the older sibling is suddenly begging loudly and being fed by the female - which we hadn't seen over three months of observing this hollow, but now have seen two nights in a row. Unsure what this change in behaviour indicates . . . are they feeding her to reassure her, as they get ready to wean her? ORIGINAL POST:The family were visiting the hollow earlier than usual for the evening feed . . . or so I thought. Then I heard, and saw, a young fledgling being fed by her mum, on a tree branch close to the hollow. I turned around, and there was the chick from the hollow, visible, head up. And also there, was a male, who sat, then lowered his head and seemed to touch/preen the head of the chick, at least three times. The chick did not back down into his hollow, so I assume he was not afraid of this interloper. The new fledgling crawled along the branch and pulled at bark. After 5-10 mins, the visiting family flew off, but not far. The fledgling's loud begging was audible behind me, and I could hear the family's chirrups and see some fluttering in the trees behind me.
