User's notes

This is the exact same tree as in https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4699694 which was identified as P. ussuriensis but as the fruit now shows (small, not persistent calyx) it is P. calleryana. There were very few fruit available to look at. This was listed in the records for street plantings as Manchurian pear. So now I am wondering if any of the 203 streets listed as having Manchurian pear actually are planted with it or are they all planted with one of the older cultivars of Callery Pear, possibly Bradford? Does anyone know of a street planting with "Pome yellow, subglobose, 2–6 cm in diam., 5-loculed; fruiting pedicel 1–3 cm, glabrous; sepals persistent? " Quote is from https://www.worldfloraonline.org/taxon/wfo-0001131706 with source given as "Provided by: [A].Flora of China @ efloras.org" Does it matter? Yes, because the newer varieties of P. calleryana planted everywhere by the ACT government cross pollinate within the species (and possibly between species) and the progeny are proving to be highly invasive.
