User's notes

This is a huge fungus, like a small stool, the small water bottle for scale. There are 5 or 6 of them there.

Also at least 4 of similar size near ridge line behind the depot buildings. I bird at the site regularly and have never seen these fungi anywhere there before.

I thought at first the rangers were having a joke, carving stools that looked like fungi - but no. Are there special birds there i should look out for Sandra?

Kevin, It’s one of my favourite birding spots. Today’s best bird was a Jacky Winter. The site has a bird list of over 130 species, and has had some unusual species at times.

OK, Sandra. I'll try to spend a bit more time there next visit. I did see and photograph a Kestrel there on my previous visit after the first of the rains.
