User's notes

The sad, and inspiring, tale of Tom2 hollow. This hollow has successfully fledged two chicks for the past three (?) years, despite sharing the tree with krefts gliders (we gave mum credit for her protective power as she sat overnight with her chicks). This year everything was going well with the hollow - mum was tagged, and continued feeding and caring for her chicks as usual. Sadly, however, mum disappeared, we assume deceased. The photo in this post is the last we have of her - 23rd December. From then on, I did not see her, and assumed she was just not there when we were around. After a couple of weeks of not seeing her, I asked the other observers if they'd seen her at all, and no-one had. We don't know what happened to her. However, amazingly, dad stepped into the breach, and managed to feed and fledge the two male chicks (last two photos). The chicks took longer to develop and fledge than average - but they survived! Thanks, dad, and vale, mum.
