RBT hollow. This was the second-last day of the first January heat wave. The previous evening (photo 1), the remaining fledgling (male) was as out of the hollow as far as he could get (or so I thought), looking hot and uncomfortable. I arrived back at the hollow before dawn the next morning. There was a still body hanging out of the hollow, and I thought the worst. I saw mum emerge from the hollow and quietly fly off. As the light grew brighter, my camera picked up the male was alive, and hanging onto the edge of the hollow. I assume he had spent the night there - perhaps scared out of the hollow, or just stopping himself from falling when he lost his balance by wing stretching the night before. He was tired, and spent quite a bit of time with his eyes closed. He fledged about an hour after these photos.
