User's notes

Yes easier to photograph in the mornings. Seems to be the acacia as suggested. Thanks! ………….I’m keen to know what eucalyptus this is? It had strange clumps on the branches?

Hi hackettganggang, thanks for your sighting. The media from your sighting does not display all the necessary features required for verification. To help us verify this sighting, please provide additional media showing key characteristics, such as close ups of leaves, any buds, flowers or gum nuts, bark on trunk and the strange clumps!

hm, may be the clumps are galls caused by fungi? I never came across fungal galls in eucalyptus; gall causing fungi are quite common in Acacia implexa and Exocarpos cupressiformis. Better known are galls caused by insects ; close ups of the clumps as a separate record with leaves of host plant would be great.

hi ok thanks. I'll take some more detailed pics when I walk up there again in the next few days.

Can't be 100% sure but the leaf silhouettes look like it & the plants often have galls.

very likely - there are A implexa in the area and they do have the fungal galls; lets see more detailed pics from hackettganggang

Some A. implexa are flowering now - so maybe flowers will reveal all!

Acacia implexa; the first photo shows globular flower heads among sparse foliage; the heavy fungal gall infestation weakens the tree; additional stress such as current drought may give it the rest i.e. it most likely dies soon.
hackettganggang Acacia = wattles are NOT Eucalyptus = gum trees

Hi and yes haha I do know that much- but hadn’t seen an acacia this big so assumed it was a gum. I’m trying to learn to identify different gums- I clearly have a long way to go.

To help with your tree id project, you may like to look at https://www.flickr.com/photos/61627737@N03/albums/72157627244893256/
which shows many of the species on Mt Majura. And see
https://majura.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Trees-of-Mt-Majura-2.1.pdf which helps with ids for gum trees.
