User's notes

Further activity at the hollow. I first saw the male sitting next to it from some distance away and hurried so I wouldn't miss any action. I then watched for almost an hour as he became increasingly impatient with the occupant. When talking failed to get any response, on several occasions he raised his wings and growled loudly into the hollow, but with no success. Eventually he moved to the neighbouring tree and while I was looking away she must have emerged and I saw two birds fly away.

Thanks Cath will check it today or tomorrow, weather permitting. I did pole this tree previously and it was empty but they may be late starters or as it was high it was difficult to do and I may have missed something

Poled today - there was wood chip lining at the base of the hollow but otherwise it was empty

Thanks Michael. I wonder why they keep going back.

I think they prepare hollows for future years

They were both there again on 6 Jan. The male watched from the next tree while the female entered the hollow. There was no sign of a tracker on her back.
