this wasp was in constant activity in circular exploratory pattern on the ground, relatively large compared to other species i have seen, 20 mm roughly.

This wasp also lifted a little circular ‘door’ on the ground and disappeared under it. Then reappeared later. I was intrigued. Given that it’s been identified as a spider wasp, I wonder if it entered and searched a trapdoor spider’s nest.
