Photo of Larvae? Not sure where the larvae is.

Larva - yes. It is almost in profile on side of tree. Rear claspers are beside the 2 long wispy bits of lichen ~ 1/4 way down picture. Its 'nose' is to right of circular mark on trunk at bottom of picture with wispy lichen sticking out in front of its head.

Not a eucalypt, possibly a wattle, I’m not too sure.

It must have been late at night - the camouflage was too good for me!

that is the general idea. Humans may not wish to eat or parisitize them BUT I once foolishly showed my neighbour some on his street tree. The ones I showed him were not there next time I looked, ones I had not shown him were.

Best singed first then simmered with a little turmeric

Meanwhile I do not see any features that would suggest a genus.

shape of 'tail' - Entometa tend to have ~ cylindrical 'tail' stump, wattle species 'tail' is like stump of acacia twig, triangular in profile, other genus more colour, hairier etc

ok: I see a triagular knob on the 'tail', so which genera feed on Wattle?
WendyEM wrote:

Pararguda nasuta feeds on acacia (P. dasymalla, P. rufescens & P. sp(1) Moths of Vic Part 1 feed on Eucalyptus sp)
