Hi Jane, I think the photos are switched now. Thanks for the id, is it possibly C.rotundus though? It doesn't looks a bit different to other C.congestus on here.

Hi Emily, Thanks for the check: Cyperus rotundus and C. congestus are both introduced and recorded from suburban Canberra. These have overlapping characteristics, but on re-considering, your plant looks closer to C. rotundus. Is there a chance you could re-visit and confirm ID ? it would be good to get a solid ID especially as hardly any records for CNM.
Things to look for, taken from PlantNet:
involucral bract definitely longer than inflorescence ( = congestus)
3 to 10 spikelets per spike (=rotundus), if "numerous" (= congestus)
glume obtuse and several nerved ( = rotundus) but if acute with 3-4 nerves (= congestus)
nut coloured dark grey-brown(= rotundus) or dark brown to black (= congestus)
Has woody tubers (= rotundus), presumably on mature plants.
