The walking trail to the summit cuts through fields of it - I added a photo that better shows this. Where the trail forks take the left option on to the ‘new’ trail, rather than the older route that uses the fire road.

Yeah cool, make sense given they like disturbance. It's curious why this variety and not the more common var.latifolius
