The photos show 1. sprayed CNG 2. a larger patch of the sprayed CNG topped with a deep layer of wood chip mulch just visible in the back; 3. the patch mulched on the 26 November to the right and a strip mulched two months earlier; 4. and 5. a patch sprayed and mulched two years ago with some direct seeded and transplanted native ground cover plants. The work is part of a Friends of Mt Majura trial to control CNG. It involves spraying / follow-up spraying; direct seeding and transplanting native ground cover plants, light and deep mulching and monitoring. The idea of deep mulching is to suppress germination of CNG seeds that are present in the soil seed bank where a mono-culture of CNG occurred. The mulching is repeated at various locations (Mt Majura, Mt Ainslie, Namadgi NP) as part of a CNG control trial.
