By afternoon, this was probably the most common butterfly around

On the forewing upperside note the unaligned row of sub apical spots, the uniform dark brown colouration, the short yellow streak on the inner margin (partially visible in image1) and the longish yellow band in the centre of wing (ref Michael Braby, Butterflies of Australia 2000).
