Definitely very similar to the one photographed by D Horbden. As I couldn't id it after downloading my photos, I turned the light back on and went out and found the more worn of the 2 visiting tonight - is it worth keeping if any one is likely to be studying or ANIC?

Yes, worth keeping, in my view, and taking specimens, if possible, anticipationg further study at some future time.
Please note, at page 61: 'Moths in the ACT' Cocking et al (2022); the two illustrations show a distinctive unnamed sexually dimorphic species (ie. not necessarily Cryptophasa (genus), showing jet black hindwings, The 'Unnamed genus and species, male and female' has been 'found regularly on Black Mt. and in nearby suburbs'.
