User's notes

Close inspection of the images shows the flower covered with tiny dark scales from the moths. Thanks to Barbara for the initial sighting.

It is worth inspecting more flowers for these stunning little moths - there are many sp. They are day feeders. Early morning is apparently a good time to look for them too (in grasses, sedges etc - possiby not in the flowers yet) As I understand it, the grassland species tend to be the more common. If you have access to grassy/sedgy wetlands you may get less common species. A stunning sighting. The close-up detail of the ?catsear? flower is also very interesting to see.
The angled shape of the medial - terminal (furthest from body) section of the wing and those, often narrow linear metallic markings in the same area are distinctive of this group. Their adults are active day feeders in flowers (I don't think any Cosmops are, and may not have feeding mouth-parts?)
