User's notes

Discovered two of these together the evening before while cleaning up a raised garden bed. This one still there the next day, other had gone. Is it just a garden skink, or something different? Light was poor when I first saw them, but I thought the other had a distinctly orange tail as it ran away - made me think copper-tailed skink, but not striped like that. Note this one has a line of alternating orangey scales on side of tail. Also looked more grey than coppery on its back. Immediately dug into loose dry soil when disturbed.

The one with the copper tail may have been Morethia boulengeri
