P. nigerrima has strong rows of puncturation along the elyutra. It is polychromatic, occuring in several color varieties, mimicking various other beetles, usually other Paropsisterna. The erratic appearance of the pale patches on the elytra are related to the series of puncturation running through them and that is the reason this beetle seems a bit different from the more common species such as P. beata, the mimicry model in this case.
