A bandicoot was eating them that grow under wet fallen leaves on the ground near the footpath. After he moved away, I rolled them out of the leaves with a stick to take photos for identification. One of our native truffles. There is a thin white skin over a chambered, light brown interior. In some of the specimens bits of the skin have broken/eroded/ben eaten away and you can see a little of the interior.
Thank you for your comment. I added a photo of the bandicoot eating one of the truffles. You can see dark brown colour inside. Does this help narrowing the truffle species?
