P. nigerrima is chromatically very variable and mimics other species, particulrly other Paropsisterna. This form is a mimic of P. octosignata or, more likely P. beata but the light blotches are never very precise, being much more jaggered, and nigerrima has strongly punctate elytral series while octosignata, sexpustulata, rufobrunnea, morio and beata, all of which it can mimic, are all smooth, elytral series being very finely punctate.
