@Alice I'm very confused by it. I have some very obvious caddisflies which come to the verandah every evening, and this one (and the other), definitely don't seem the same.

I agree, very confusing, but I think it could be a moth of the family Coleophoridae. Try the internet for images and see what you think.

Shape and forward facing antennae suggest Plutellidae. Or is it a caddis ?
