I'm certainly no expert Mike but of the 10 Bursaria postings at The Pinnacle NR on NatureMapr, there are a few with no subsp. , a few with subsp. lasiophylla and a few with subsp. spinosa. In at least one case the same moderator has identified one of each subsp. As for me, I have yet to identify the difference and it is something I have been wondering about.
Bursaria spinosa subsp. lasiophylla is the only Bursaria listed in the ACT Plant Census, indicating the previous Bursaria spinosa and Bursaria lasiophylla are no longer recognised in the ACT. There are only four sightings of Bursaria spinosa subsp. spinosa in Canberra Nature Map; three are from planting in error and one (in The Pinnacle, Bursaria spinosa subsp. spinosa (Blackthorn, Boxthorn)) has been queried. I'm no botanist but I have been asked to get to subspecies level (if there is one) of identification on CNM.
Hi @Tapirlord, your comment came in while I was still writing mine. Maybe we have to keep the subsp. spinosa for planted ones, unless they have been removed by FOMM.
