I think….occasional in disturbed ground where feral pigs have damaged native poa or Carex.

Looks about right to me, though not one I'm too familiar with, I can't say I can put a better suggestion to it than that.

Thats all good Jane, from reading the descriptions it is a plant of moist soils so i had thought there was a chance you had enouctered it in your travels. Having looked at the descriptions again I'm confident of the ID; it seems the subsp are seperated based upon microscopic features of the seeds but this plant is most likely subsp. chondrosperma on distribution & habitat.
