User's notes

1 male and 2 female wallaroos observed on Oakey Hill Lyons. Very shy, and difficult to photograph. Male very dark in colour, with a stocky build. Females somewhat smaller, lighter in colour, with shaggy coat. Might have seen a further 2 females and 1 male, but cannot be sure. Corroborated by similar recent sightings on Oakey Hill. In vicinity of Eastern greys and red necked wallabies.

Hi John, the Users Notes certainly fit with Wallaroo but the photos are 100% EGK. Part of some notes I wrote about macropod ID from trail cam photos:

My tip, as well as what is in the ID guide, is to look hard at their tails. First, the two wallabies have thin tails and the two kangaroos have stout tails as shown in the decision chart below. Red Necked Wallabies have pale tails and Black (Swamp) Wallabies have all-black tails. Eastern Grey Kangaroos tails are grey with black on the last one third usually. Female Wallaroos have almost white tails usually. Male Wallaroos usually have all black tails. Also, Black Wallabies (the species seen most often at night) often appear at night to have a dark mark like a harness on their chests.

I agree with your call. A case of confirmation bias on my part! Their colouring is quite different from the other EGKs in the reserve, which is why I was able to persuade myself that they were something different.
