very sure - the 2 photos were taken less than half a minute apart, and I had earlier in the day seen plenty of Centranthus at a different location - no need to appeal to Tapirlord, inkweed is something I have known for more than a decade, so I will go back and dig it out
Guys, Luke is right. This is def Centranthus ruber. For one thing the upper leaves are sessile, not petiolate which they should be if this were Phytolacca octandra.
Also, not exactly sure what you mean by Luke appealing to me? I receive these alerts just as Luke does, so would've come across the sighting and made the same decision regardless. Perhaps more importantly, the two of us manage moderating as a team by checking each others ID's so asking for another view is just part of good practice.
I have also been away for a little over a week so Luke has been tackling most of the moderating, (and has done a fantastic job), so part of the descision to tag me will likely have been to ensure this one didn't fall through the cracks (650 is a lot of alerts to sift through lol).
Barbara, I think the best thing to do here is undo your confirmation rather than overide a second time. I'll wait to do that until i've heard from you.
