This male and female chewed bark around the hollow, softly talking as the male explored the mouth of the hollow. Then the male entered the hollow for ten minutes or so - long enough for the female to become agitated. She flew to the mouth of the hollow, called softly, looked in, and then had enough and cried loudly in the cranky "I'm alarmed" tone, which quickly brought the male out of the hollow. Shortly after they flew to a nearby tree to eat. I'm wondering if this is a hollow we've been monitoring (it's just that it's new to me). I'm also wondering about the scar-like mark across the male's cheek, and whether this may become an identifiable bird?

Thanks Lisa H - This does look like a hollow that birds have shown an interest in the past but so far we have not recorded being actually used. I will add "scar face" to the identifiable bird collection it would be good to keep an eye out for him

Thanks Michael. I was intrigued that the male spent so long in the hollow - no possum, at least not today. Will keep an eye out. Also - I'm fascinated that gang gang interest in hollows is year round?

Yes they are compulsive hollow investigators but the hollow activity hots up in September
