Photos are not the most helpful, and these are young plants, but I would suggest these are more likely P.aspera based on leaf shape and texture.

Thanks, I wasn't totally happy with P. betulina but somehow got stuck on that ID, P. aspera fits much better.
Yes, only young plants in the area, which looks like it was intensely burned, no mature plants evident.

Thanks actually makes sense, I was a bit thrown at the time but didn't really think about the immature foliage, just thought it was P. betulina.
