No, not introduced but native. There is an introduced species, Typha latifolia, which has a much darker (near black) spike rather than rich chestnut; and which occurs mainly in NE Tasmania, parts of Vic and around Sydney (a distribution pattern reflecting its introduction in 19th century and sometime accidental planting in constructed wetlands).
