I was tossing up between them but opted for multiflora because of the comment in Barrett, Cosgrove and Milner that multiflora has "purplish sheathing at the base". Not sure how significant that is though.

The flowers on L. multiflora are quite different - have a look at some of the pictures here Lomandra multiflora

I agree - I've identified them before. I looked at lots of photos of both species and decided my flowers didn't quite look like either. But I'm happy to agree with your ID. I wish all the L. filiformis would have 3 pointed leaf tips like they're supposed to :-) Still trying to get my head around the differences in flower appearance and flower head stem structure between them.

Lomandra filiformis subsp. coriacea tend to grow in colonies too, which one of the photos shows nicely.

Thanks, that's a good tip - I've seen quite a lot of multiflora now but never in a big group.
So many things to learn (and remember). The ID pointers in the local field guides are a great help, but not always the whole answer.
