Michael would know better than me where the plantings start, there is definitely white box in this area. Could also be apple box

That explains the lack of diversity in eucalyptus species right there. Expected RSB but were not in this patch. Added photos of buds under the single flowering eucalyptus. Foliage was greyish tinged blue.

Richard you stumbled across plantings of Charles Weston dating back to about 1920. Given that E. albens is a rare species in the ACT, I think these trees can be regarded as the first threatened species restoration plantings in our area. Around 1920 most of the hills surrounding Canberra were highly denuded. The Burley Griffins had the innovative idea of restoring the hills wooded landscapes and had a colour scheme for most of tehe inner hills. Red Hill was to be planted with Red flowers, Black Mountain Yellow (I think), Mt Ainslie pink (I think) Mt pleasant Purple and Mugga Mugga white. Thus as well as your white box you may have also noticed Arglye Apple (Eucalyptus cinerea) and E. pulverlenta (another rare species) which have whitish foliage. Golden Wattle was also planted as its stems are white.
