I was observing a Buff-banded Rail at the swamp, and realised there was a lot of splashing nearby. I eventually located a small bird struggling to stay up, and unable to get itself out of the water. Took a little while to get to it and get it out, then kept it as warm as possible and it was taken straight to a carer (Manuela). The kingfisher was placed in an incubator overnight to dry out. It was a female, 42 grams, and appeared to have a slight concussion. This bird was released back at Jerra wetlands on 21st March, in hope it would still be able to migrate back North for the winter. Second picture is from the carer during its care.
I sure hope it was okay, and will return in Spring.
