Significant sighting

DonFletcher noted:

This is the first time this individual has been recognized since he was first recorded in the spring of 2020. Only six individual goannas have been recognized on Mt Ainslie since 2015. This is the last remaining goanna population in Canberra Nature Park. When Canberra Nature Park started, there were multiple populations of two species. Goannas live for decades. Maybe this one is older than most of the people who photographed him?

Hi UserYYUcWrlf, Excellent face photo! Well done! From its face I know this goanna as 'Luke Dunn's Goanna' which Luke observed foraging through rabbit warrens north of Campbell Park a few years ago. Yours is the second sighting. I see it is on a footpath, a sealed road and a dirt track so perhaps you saw it somewhere like the summit of Mt Ainslie, but definitely not where it shows on the map. Something has gone awry in the location process. Would you mind correcting it please? Let me know if you need any help.

Hi Don,
Yes, something has gone awry in the location process and would appreciate help in correcting it. The correct location is the western side of the sealed road at the summit of Mt Ainslie.
Thank you for the interesting information regarding the goanna being known as Luke Dunn's goanna, amazing that you can identify it from its face! I do have another excellent photo (taken by my husband) of the goanna's face, please let me know if you would like it. I could only upload a total of 4 to the sighting so that one missed out.

Hi UserYYUcWrlf, I changed the location to where you described by editing the latitude and longitude coordinates. I hope it looks right? If not you could do the same to improve it by clicking the 'edit' button then the 'update' button when finished. And I saw your husband's post on facebook and downloaded face pictures from that. Thanks very much to you both.
I've been co-operating with Parks and Conservation to try to survey and monitor this last remaining goanna population in Canberra Nature Park. So far we have face photos of six Rosenberg's Goannas there. (I have face photos of another 114 in Namadgi.) When Canberra Nature Park started, there were multiple populations of two goanna species.

Hi Don,
Thank you for correcting the location of the sighting. Pleased you saw the photos on facebook and have been able to use the face photos to identify the goanna. Good to know we have been able to contribute to the work you do in monitoring the last remaining population of goanna in Canberra Nature Park.
