Thanks Michael. It was close to an intermittently flowing creek which has had quite a bit of water in it in recent times, but certainly not a permanently wet location. Do you have any other thoughts?
No Cath. Your suggested species is called Annual Beard Grass because of its apparent "fluffiness". The location might be suitable, but the inflorescence of your specimen has a much more slender appearance and the lacks the "fluffiness" which appears on all other photos of Polypogon monspeliensis.
