Great observations thanks. Gangs gangs line their nests with chewed bark perhaps they are collecting material. Nesting seems to be later this year than in other recent years. Doesn't look from your photo that the leaves and bark had any insects like leaps or gall growths on that they were after rather than the eucalyptus material itself - is this your impression?
