This looks like procumbens leaves and flower structure but has pinky-red flowers instead of yellow/red. Is this a variant maybe?

Possibly, but it could also be the flowers fading because of sun exposure (or some other reason, it can be caused by a number of things).

They were directly adjacent to normal coloured procumbens. It seems improbable that they were faded but can't discount I guess.
