Female inspecting hollow with male perched nearby - hollow lower down the tree has a lot of light downy feathers around it.

Thanks the light downy feathers will be from a wood duck. This is actually an encouraging sign as wood ducks have either finished or just about to finish their nesting season and on several occasions we have had Gang-gangs move into the recently vacated and softly furnished premises.
