It's quite possibly another ant. See sightings 4206928 and 4247203 for similar behaviour.

I think your right Cath, looking at photo 2, I can now see the head and the band down the back of the second ant, thanks for that Cath

By the way, I also videoed the first ant carrying the insect. Freeze framing the video, I can clearly see that it is carrying another golden spined ant.
