Not a gum - deciduous, purple leaf tree in our backyard. They don’t often come to that tree, preferring other (deciduous, non gum) trees in our neighbours backyard.

Thanks please report another sighting if you see them entering the hollow. I am also very keen to get images of any feeding Gang-gangs as part of a range wide diet study.

Sure, will do. They were both gnawing at the bark on the tree, but not very much. Interestingly, they were both more concerned with the dead branch of the tree, not the branches with new buds/blossoms.
