Hi Shoko. Maybe the tip of the bud got a bit chewed or otherwise damaged before it opened?

If it was a bug that chewed the tip before opening then I didn't think that the labellum could be chewed, as it would've been tucked inside the bud? I think the tip of the labellum looks rather round and without teeth, a bit different to a generic tip.

All those tips look brown and shrivelled and even the tip of the column looks damaged. I think all these things might be close together in the bud before they expand differentially, but just a guess.

Thanks Cath, I'll have to try and spot it again next year to confirm!
