After my record of this bird on 20th I skimmed through records for common sandpiper in Ebird covering winter months and it is remarkable how consistent returning birds arrived around 3rd week in August. Particularly the 18th. Not so for this individual on previous years. Or was it just not noticed until early October in 2019 & 2020?

That is interesting, not really sure of the exact dates. It isn't the easiest bird to see as it is so small and blends in with the surroundings, as you would know. Well done finding it on the 20th Aug this year.
