Not sure if the red things are little berries or some kind of growth on the plant, as they were not on stalks but growing direct out of the leaves.

The red growths are a kind of gall (caused by either an insect or fungus, I'd say these will be caused by insect larvae). They are known to inhibit the growth of a plant, but these ones seem pretty well contained :).
