The hyaline, filiform spores are not septate & measure 80+ to 120 x c. 1.5 micrometres. Paraphyses are cylindric to narrowly clavate, up to 5 micrometres wide at the apex.
The photo shows part of the preserved herbarium specimen. A look at my Kodachrome slides of the fresh material shows there to be little difference between the fresh and dried states. When fresh the colour was a slightly more yellowish orange and the wood was damp and darker, so that the black rim around the orange surface was not so clearly differentiated.
