I think that this specimen is the larvae of one of the Mycetophilidae - fungus flies. They move within a mucus tube in a network of webs of transparent slime. They are frequently found beneath rotting logs and are invariably associated with fungus growing there.

Further digging in the literature suggests that it could be one of the fungus gnats, possibly in the Keroplatidae.

It was about 30mm long, does that change things? It was found under a log and moved onto an area covered in white fungus.

The additional information confirms my opinion that it is a larva of of a fungus gnat.
