This is the first time we have heard these calls. They appear to be evenly spaced over a wide area, all day yesterday and into the night, then again from early this morning. At least a dozen.

This species seems to have been hammered during the drought and possibly by the fires. But now, the lag between high grass growth following a wet spring and the grazing pressure which was reduced by the drought means that this species would probably have a bumper breeding season.

While walking, throughout the Sanctuary, the Quail will explode out from the grassy layer nearby. So well camouflaged, a bird departed and these eggs were literally between my feet, so a good opportunity for a quick photo.
