Larger moth on the window when I forgot to close the curtain. 5cm across when perched - i still do not know how moth size is measured.

Unless otherwise specified I take it to be the wingspan at rest on a flat surface, or if a pinned specimen from wing tip to wing tip.

Thanks Ian. Many moths tend to perch with wings folded around their body, and then I tend to use the body length, so am probably just confusing everyone - sorry :(

No agreed, re using body length. Usually indicative only in most cases.
