Found this in our camping chair that we took out of our shed. We actually discovered it in a remote camping spot near Mt Hope NSW but believe it traveled with us from Canberra since we hadn't pulled the chair out until we got to that point. Or perhaps it was from the West Wyalong area where we camped the previous night (but we didn't get the chair out at this location). We have caught it in case it was an Asian house gecko and didn't want it to escape (we didn't have any internet to check), but I don't think it is. But it also doesn't seem to be a local stone gecko or marbled gecko from the info I can find. An ID would be greatly appreciated so we know what to do with it.
This particular gecko has a very dark colouration which masks the patterning on its back, but if you look more closely there is evidence of a marble patterning. Another trait normally possessed by marbled geckoes is a series of reddish-brown patches, found along the tail which this animal has to a degree. The eye colouration appears to be red which is unusual but this could be just the light reflecting off of the red chair. It is an unusually dark specimen but this species' colouration can vary greatly. Please wait for a moderators Identification before releasing the gecko, in case I have got it wrong :).
Thanks Very much for your quick response @tapirlord! I will wait for confirmation, and it probably doesn't help that the container I have it in is bright orange.
